Most people do not want to find themselves in a situation where they need a plumber, let alone an emergency one, but sometimes it is necessary. Of course, most people will hold off calling for help until they absolutely have to, but sometimes doing this can actually end up costing you more than you think. For this reason, it is a good idea to know what actually is considered an emergency plumbing situation in Myrtle Beach, SC, and what can wait a few days. Keep in mind that plumbing comes with a high flood risk which means a lot of expensive bills so it is always best to head that off when you can.

It is simply always a better idea to be cautious when it comes to your plumbing system. The thing is sometimes what appears to be a small issue turns into a much larger issue. Sometimes the small issue is an indication of a much larger issue that if you ignore will cause large issues down the road. Here are a few issues that may not seem like a big deal, but are actually very big deals that you should call a plumber about right away.

Several Slow Drains in the House

Any slow drain is annoying, but it can be easy to ignore when the drain isn’t fully clogged. Most people think they can just deal with it, but this approach will usually backfire because eventually the drain will clog completely at which point you will need a plumbing service. While we suggest you should always have a plumber investigate a slow drain, if you have more than one slow drain then you need to take immediate action because this is a sign of a much larger problem.

If there is more than one slow drain in your home it is unlikely that each has its own isolated issue. It is more likely that there is something larger wrong with the drainage system in your home and/or a problem with our sewer line. You don’t want to mess around with a sewer issue because it can easily explode into a much larger issue in just a few hours. You can never know for sure when the sewer line is going to clog completely or burst, so if there is building pressure in the line and several sinks are draining slowly it is time to call a plumber.

You Notice Water Spots on the Ceiling

A lot of people see water spots on the ceiling and mistake them for peeling paint or discolored areas of the ceiling, but this indicates a bigger issue than just repainting your ceiling. These spots indicate that there is probably a leak coming from the bathroom and dripping under the flooring of your bathroom and into the ceiling of the room that is under it. Not only are you wasting water at that point, but eventually the leaking will cause dry rot and damage to your ceiling supports so you need to call a plumber to address the issue right away.

While you don’t have to worry about a bathtub dropping into your kitchen if you take action right away if you wait too long it very well might. As you might guess, it is a lot cheaper to call a plumber to deal with a leaking pipe than it is to have your entire ceiling/flooring ripped out and replaced to deal with the dry rot. Ceiling spots are always an indication that you need to address the leak and quickly put an end to it.

Hot Water Is Discolored

Every so once in a while, if you haven’t turned on a tap for a while you may notice that a rusty red color comes out of it, which is not a large deal. You will often see this as workstation taps in the basement that only get used when you are working on home projects or side bathrooms. However, if you notice this is a tap that does get used regularly and you don’t see it clearly within a few seconds this is something that you should call a plumber about right away.

The red, rusty color is likely a sign that there is rust in your water coming from a rusty pipe or from your water heater. If you only notice the rusty color when you are using the hot water then this points to the water heater. On the other hand, if you notice the rust-like water out of both faucets then this is a sign that something in your pipes is rusting that needs to be addressed urgently. Either way, you will need to call a plumber to determine what the best course of action is to eradicate the problem. Keep in mind the longer you wait the higher the chance you will be consuming rust and/or dealing with a water heater explosion.

Sudden Change in Water Pressure

Sudden changes in water pressure can also be a sign of plumbing trouble that requires immediate attention. If you notice that the pressure in your home gets barely noticeable or suddenly very high then you need to call a plumber to get help. Before doing that you may want to ask your neighbors if they are having the same issue because it could be a sign that something is wrong with your local municipal water source, however, if they are not having problems then it is time to get some assistance. Usually, drastic changes in water pressure indicate an issue with the water main that needs to be addressed by a plumbing professional. Benjamin Franklin Plumbing of Myrtle Beach can help pinpoint an issue with the water main or anything else. We offer emergency plumbing services in Myrtle Beach, SC, and are always happy to help.
